Facing Cancer Together is a research-based project with the goals of improving knowledge and changing behaviors about cancer. It is a community education partnership of PinnacleHealth, WellSpan Health, Lancaster General Health and witf. Facing Cancer Together launched in April 2011 with original productions for TV, radio and print plus interactive web resources (including the Digital Quilt).
A little more detail, The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences describes the category of Community Service as:
For excellence in programming; whether news or non-news, involving the entire company in a continuing effort to focus interest on, and marshal support for, a worthy community cause. Entry should emphasize the depth, breadth, duration and efficacy of the effort, and must be comprised only of material as actually aired.
In addition to witf’s Emmy Award for outstanding achievement in Community Service from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Mid-Atlantic Chapter, witf’s Facing Cancer Together has also been honored with a National Edward R. Murrow award, for Best Audio News Series for Facing Cancer Together, and a the Digital Quilt for excellence in broadcast journalism.
The Facing Cancer Together team would like to express our deep gratitude to each person that shared their story with this project. Whether it was in-person at an event, in our TV and radio stories, or online through the Digital Quilt... your shared personal stories, thoughts and wisdom have brought hope to many and have made this effort a special one. We truly are in this together! Thank you!
